Midcounties launches ‘travel promise’

New promise includes refunds within 10 days

Co-op Holidays, Midcounties Co-operative’s tour operator brand, has launched the ‘Co-op Holidays Promise’ – a new initiative to bring peace of mind to travellers.

It has been launched alongside a new travel insurance policy that includes Covid-19 cover in conjunction with Rock Insurance.

The Co-op Holidays Promise, which is applicable on any future holiday bookings made for travel from now features four key elements:

  • Book it – Deposits start from only £49pp
  • Change it – Admin fees by Co-op Holidays, previously charged for changes, have been dropped. If holidaymakers decide to change their travel plans, for any reason, the only costs incurred will be those charged by third-party suppliers, for example airlines or hoteliers. If prices increase or fall, as a result of the change, customers will either pay the extra or be refunded the difference.
  • Cancel it – Guests can change their mind and cancel their holiday, for any reason, up to six weeks before travel, and only lose the original deposit paid
  • Refund it – If Co-op Holidays has to cancel the holiday for any reason, cash refunds will be paid to customers within 10 working days, including their deposit. Co-op Holidays will not issue deferred refunds or refund credit notes.

Co-op Holidays packages can be sold by any travel company affiliated to Midcounties Co-operative.

Hugh Smith, operations manager of Co-op Holidays, said: “As part of an independent co-operative society, we’ll always put our customers and members first. Without security and peace of mind, their holiday experience cannot properly begin, so we are very proud to launch our ‘Co-op Holidays Promise’. It will take some time before Covid-19 is a distant memory. Until then, we want the customers of our affiliated agents to be able to book and look forward to that hard-earned holiday and continue to enjoy the magic of travel.”

Rad Sofronijevic, chief operating officer of Midcounties Co-operative’s travel division, added: “With customers tentatively but excitedly returning to our high street stores and to their personal travel providers, now is the perfect time to be able to offer the extra reassurances that the ‘Co-op Holidays Promise’ and our new insurance policy brings. We believe they are some of the best propositions in the market, enabling us to put our customers’ peace of mind first.

“After these very tough months for the travel industry, Midcounties’ travel brands are picking up momentum once again. Our Co-operative Travel stores have all now reopened, offering an appointment system to allow for social distancing. Along with our retail shops, the personal travel agents and Consortium members have also seen a lift in bookings since travel restrictions were eased and our support for agents and members along with valued customers, remains our primary focus.”
