Royal Caribbean Cruises to cut 26% of US workforce

Azamara president and CEO resigns as parent company announces job cuts.

Larry Pimentel, the president & CEO of Azamara, has resigned from the company as RCL looks to shed 26 per cent of its US workforce.

In a company memo, Richard Fain, chairman of RCL, credited Pimentel with being behind the idea of destination immersion – realised through longer stays and more overnights in port.

In the memo, reported in Seatrade, Fain said that Pimentel was “one of the finest minds and one of the very best people in the travel industry. He is an original thinker, an entrepreneur and someone whose informed, considered opinions helped raise the bar not only at Azamara but at RCL over the past 11 years. He’s also been a counsellor and mentor to countless individuals across the company.”
